The Golden Square Mile is a sparkling diamond of architecture and history in Montréal’s city centre. The original residents who built their homes here were owners and business leaders of Canadian industry such as railroads, timber, mining, banking, furs, shipping, etc. Most were Scottish or of Scottish descent. The peak of the Golden Square Mile was between 1850 and 1930, and it’s believed that 70 percent of Canada’s wealth was held by these men. The neighbourhood developed principally between 1850 -1930. Found at the foot of Mount Royal in the western section of downtown Montreal, it denotes a profound Memory of Cultural & Mercantile History of Montreal.
